The Process

1. The plans for a new project are examined either in person or via e-mailed Autocad files, and an estimate is given.

2. The desired view and building materials are discussed - if desired, material samples can be provided to duplicate via software.

3. The building, texturing, and lighting of the model take place.   People, cars, and landscaping are added if desired.

4. Sample renderings are e-mailed for approval

5. If any changes need to be made, the model is re-rendered and e-mailed again for approval - this process continues until the client is satisfied with the image.

6. Prints and/or video are made and delivered

Generally, the cost of each architectural rendering is broken up into the following segments:

1)  Setup

This portion includes 3d model creation, texturing, and lighting.  Autocad files can be imported directly into the rendering software as reference for accuracy.  Preview images are rendered and e-mailed for approval free of charge before any prints are made, so you'll know exactly what the print will look like before you get it.  The cost of the setup varies with the complexity of the project, but is normally in the range of $500 to $1200.

2)  Output

Once the model is finalized and approved, prints and/or video can be created.  The price for producing any view of the project in the form of a 12" x 18" photo quality (dye-sub) print is $75.  Newspaper ready half-tones are $25 each.  When comparing this method to conventional hand drawn techniques, substantial savings can be had especially when ordering prints of multiple views of the project.  The cost of video varies slightly from project to project according to it's complexity, however it's usually around $500 per minute of video.  Currently, in-house video formats include VHS, SVHS, avi, and mpeg.  For an extra fee, Betacam output can be obtained.
